Highlights & annotations
Papiers indexes your highlights and annotations with the rest of your library.
Highlights
Select a passage to highlight it.
Highlights appear in the Highlights pane for the document. Click one to return to the passage in the source.
Highlights you make on saved web pages with the Chrome extension sync to Papiers and appear when you open the article in the desktop app.
Annotations
Add an annotation to write on a specific passage.
Annotations appear with the highlight they belong to and are searchable across your library.
Download a highlighted PDF
In the desktop PDF reader, open More reader actions (the three-dot menu) and choose Download PDF with highlights. Choose where to save the copy.
The saved copy includes your highlight colors and attached annotations. Area highlights become outlined regions. Text stays searchable, and the highlights remain standard PDF annotations that compatible readers can edit.
Wait for highlights to load before exporting. Encrypted PDFs cannot currently be exported with highlights.
Text highlights saved in the pre-May 2026 selection format are unsupported.
